Modern Masterpiece: The Stunning Renovation of a Chelsea Townhouse

News

It’s not often that a property and project of this magnitude comes along in the Chelsea area of New York City. At 8,300 square feet, the seven bedroom, eight bathroom townhouse known as 253 West 18th Street is a monument to contemporary design and urban luxury. Developed by Waverly Capital, the team engaged Tara Benet of Tara Benet Interior Design to design the interior of this massive structure. Tara is a sought-after designer whose experience and previous role as a visual stylist for the luxury furniture brand B&B Italia provided her with an understanding and keen eye for how to meld elegant pieces in every room – no matter the size or scale.

When designing the master bath, Tara knew she wanted the palette to be primarily white, which would create the feeling that the master suite was a sanctuary. The suite occupies the entire third floor and boasts a silver woodgrain marble gas fireplace, a private balcony overlooking the garden, a huge
dressing room, and a marble-clad en suite bathroom with a lacquer double vanity fitted with Franz Viegener’s precisionengineered chrome Edge faucets, a two-person rain shower with an invisible drain, and an elegant free-standing soaking tub, also fitted with Franz Viegener’s deck-mounted Edge tub
filler. The mirror-like finish of the faucets add subtle shine and geometric styling to the crisp whites elsewhere in the room.

Each of the remaining bedrooms feature private walk-in closets and pristine en suite bathrooms with marble floors, Toto toilets, built-in hampers, and custom driftwood vanities. Franz Viegener’s products are in one of the powder rooms as well as the master bath. There are additional rooms on the sixth floor as well as a full bathroom, finished rooftop and cellar with a sky-lit pool The sixth floor contains a pair of flex rooms that can be used as bedrooms, rec rooms, studies, or additional living space. One of the rooms possesses a wet bar, wine storage, and access to a full bathroom and a large terrace. There is a finished rooftop and to complete the home, there is an extraordinary cellar that has an in-ground pool, imported porcelain slab walls, heated flooring, a full bathroom, and a
236-bottle wine cooler. The Franz Viegener brand was proud to be a part of this extraordinary undertaking.
